Another Great Thanksgiving Trick

Remember last year I posted a game for the readers of this blog.Well it's still there if you want to try it out if you scroll down the blog.
However, this year I have a wonderful trick you can play on the family and although somewhat disheartening to the players it creates a great deal of conversation.
Simply put,in the course of conversation you can say to the table,"Iwill give a hundred dollars to anyone who can show me a penny from our country".
This will automatically put you at the center of attention and have the guests running and digging for a penny.Naturally one will be produced and when its handed to you you simply state,"Sorry but that is a one cent coin. Our country has no pennies'.
In all fairness you would be correct because we work off a decimal system and a " penny " is merely a nickname for the one cent coin.
You can then start a conversation about coins and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Remember The Buffalo

The buffalo five cent coin has a long and varied history in numismatics. It was released in 1913 and ended in 1938. It is considered a true American coin due to the images of the indian and the buffalo.Remember in 2013 the coin will be one hundred years old and will have a resurgence in the numismatic community at that time. Another interesting fact about the coin is the date was worn away on the majority of the circulating coins and when you go to purchase some make sure you can read all four digits in the date or don't purchase them because in my opinion they really have no numismatic value.
Read up on the coin so you can learn about its wonderful history and with a layout of a few hundred dollars you just might be able to complete a set of circulated buffalo nickels.
Good luck in your quest .

New coin designs needed

The country needs a president and congress who will quit playing partisan politics and design some new coins which portray lady liberty in all her splendor instead of all these dead presidents.
I for one would love to see some coins like the Mercury Dime and the Peace Dollar.
These coins seemed to take our imagination and we could run with it . Now it is just another picture of Lincoln or Roosevelt. Yes,these were great men but there images are getting overused and taken for granted on our coinage.
When you get an opportunity to see your people in congress why don't you bring up the subject and perhaps they will get the idea we need some changes to our currency.

A new token to look for could be very profitable

Did you ever realize cash is no longer king? As a matter of fact even in casinos they no longer are using tokens as they have been replaced by cash .
This is a golden opportunity for coin collectors to start looking for those old tokens and bring them to coin shows and flea markets as an adjunct to what you are selling,
In my opinion they will become highly collectible down the road so if you have some or ever see them it is my opinion to obtain as many as you can.
Good luck in your hunt and remember you heard it first here.

Arizona is driving me crazy

Maybe i have had a bad day because my furnace went out and i have been trying to get Directv, with one t,to give me a damn rebate but i cannot figure out the territorial state quater's design.I purchased them yesterday and just started looking at them today. When i pulled out a roll I did not know what the design was trying to portray.
Perhaps, with all the state and territorial quarters being released they have gotten to me. I am in a
trance and will never be the same again. If any readers of this blog can help me with this design I would be most appreciative. Until then i will remain confused and mystified over what the artist was trying to portray
I will send one to the person who has the best explanation.

Fiat money in action

While we are on the subject of our trip we managed to go to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing building in WASHINGTON ,D. C.
As mentioned in previous posts they print 'FIAT'money and we observed how they actually print the notes for our country.Over nine hundred million dollars is printed every day but according to our guide this is mainly money which replaces old worn out notes. However,it is still not backed by anything.
Irregardless, it is a great tour and free to the general public as all of Washington's museums are.

Coins Come Alive

We just returned from Charleston,West Virginia and had the wonderful experience of visiting Thomas Jefferson's home. It just so happens to be the home on the back of the five cent coin and we were amazed how beautiful the real home is. It is part of the Monticello estate and would love to see some readers of this blog take our advice and go see it for yourselves.
This home is living history and because of coin collecting I went out of my way to see the real model. What an experience.

Arizona is coming out for another round

The fourth territorial quarter will be the Grand Canyon in another scene.Although, I have reservations about another quarter of the same scene it just so happens to fall into the series and will probably not be highly sought after by the general public like the state quarter.
However,as readers of this blog know it will help complete your series and down the road you will be glad to obtain a roll.
In all honesty 2010 is a rather dull year for coin collecting as compared to 2009 but there are better days ahead. One will be the Lincoln presidential dollar coming out in a month or two and in 2013 the Buffalo Nickel will be one hundred years old.
Perhaps, these future issues will get my adrenaline flowing.

BEWARE OF MANY COINS

I am sure most readers of this blog already know this but for beginners let me stress to you in simple and direct terms do not buy any high grade coins from flea markets and off the internet unless it has been graded by a reputable firm.
As most experienced people in the field know China is allowing counterfeiters to flourish in their country and they are great at duplicating old coins and leaving off the word 'copy' which is against the law .There is no coin off limits and even experienced dealers in our country are getting fooled all the time.
If this keeps up the numismatic field will disappear because of lack of trust for coins and our country has taken no action because they do not want to upset their biggest trading partner.
Even if they do take action it may be to late due to the millions of coins already in the mix.
The only action to take is buy from reputable dealers and make sure the coin is graded and guaranteed genuine.

new uses for one cent coins

I have always tried to get people to think of new uses for the one cent coins and would love to hear your ideas. Some of my own would be using them in flower arrangements, using them as golf ball markers, passing them out at anniversary parties to mark that special occasion or using them as buttons. Whatever is employed makes no difference as long as people enjoy them .
I would love to hear your ideas so please let me know so we can share them with others.
Also, remember www.reminicents can supply them for these special occasions as well.

Is our money worth anything ?

I urge all readers of this blog to google "fiat money" and learn about how our system backs the nations money supply.I want you to learn first hand how the government has financed all our wars and bailouts with these funds.

new presidential coins

i know it's been a while since i blogged but for my loyal readers i suggest you keep an eye out for the Franklin Pierce presidential dollar released a month or so ago. you may have trouble locating some but they are essential for the series.
i have also been told the James Buchanan dollar is just being released and it to should be acquired by readers of this blog..
it seems 2010 is a little boring compared to 2009 as far as released coins but the coins being released are essential to building series and now is not the time to give up.

some new coins our readers should be aware of

the third national park quarter is being circulated .Yosemite has arrived and a quarter dollar will never do our parks justice. however, as an avid coin collector i bit the bullet and purchased some rolls for posterity.
perhaps, when the series finishes i will be glad i have them so i can develop some books but for those of us who have seen the natural wonders and the enormity of these parks there is nothing that can do them justice.
i urge all of my readers to go see them and partake of the real parks and forests.
when the Theodore Roosevelt presidential dollar comes out it will be a true tribute to the man who saw the vision of these parks and let's be grateful for his insights.for without him many would never have been created.

are you one hundred years old ?

at www.reminicents a one hundred year old person is a youngster to us. that's because our collection can easily go back forty more years with no problem.
our collection of coins is so enormous we feel we are one of the few companies that can supply coins with ease to help people connect with their past.not only that but can help businesses as well display the many years they have been around as well.
please keep us in mind when researching your geneology and you will even be surprised how little it costs to catch up on those great years. remember these coins were there .

another great coin investment

Franklin Pierce is out in the presidential coin series and for most people they will think like myself what the hell did he ever do?
however, his rolls are mostly face value at banks now and as with most new issues are not extremely popular.let me be the first to tell you to pick up a roll or two and just put them away. when the series starts minting the more current and better known presidents you will be glad you have them to complete coin books.
my prediction will come sooner than most people think because Lincoln is coming out at the end of this year and the series will start to blossom.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION.

i spoke to soon

well i did it this time .originally, i stated i was going to stay away from the new national parks quarters when i saw the Arkansas Hot Springs state quarter and then i stated in another blog the Yellowstone Quarter was beginning to peak my interest.
well after the fifth time going to my favorite coin store and buying rolls of the coins i am truly hooked and can't wait for the third one to be released.
i have not yet purchased any books to hold them but that is coming down the road as well.
lastly, the mintage is so low due to the economy of our nation they may very well turn out to be a great investment.
I URGE THE READERS OF THIS BLOG TO OBTAIN A FEW ROLLS AND JUST HOLD THEM.

is there a gold alternative

where ever one goes now you see adds or stores for gold as a commodity. people either want you to sell or buy the metal and promise the consumer a great increase of wealth if you follow their advice.
at www. reminicents we to have an investing plan but one much more affordable. why don't you take a look at the numismatic page or the whats new page to see what we offer.
these coins have increased in value over the years and are getting harder and harder to find. they make great graduation gifts or birthday presents for your loved ones.
they are also a great way to introduce someone to the field of numismatics.
please feel free to contact us for more information.

yellowstone is exciting

just when i was about to give up on the park series quarters i just saw the design for Yellowstone and i must admit i am excited again. it is a nice likeness of the old geyser and if the mint was smart they would dip the coins in sulfur to give a real ambiance to the quarter.
perhaps, this coin will create some buzz now that the summer travel season is approaching.
by the way i hope to see you on the road this season. you can spot us with our WWW.REMINICENTS hats on. have a good one.

hot springs quarter is just cool

today i saw the hot springs new national park quarter and was unimpressed by the design. i did not think it really did justice to the park. i am now under the impression the new parks series can't do justice to these territories and will fail as a series if this continues.perhaps, our country should have stopped with the american states quarter series.
let me hear your opinions.

2010 is starting for coin collectors

i have already purchased a couple of rolls of the new one cent coins and they look impressive.
also keep an eye out for the Millard Filmore presidential dollars which are available at some banks for face value.
as stated earlier the interest in presidential dollars are starting to slow because we have never really have known some of these former presidents but as the series gets going interest will pick up and you will be glad you followed my advice.

take heed of 2009 Lincoln series

the price for boxes of the 2009 Lincoln series is skyrocketing. i just received a new invoice that the fourth series p mint is doubling in price.i have to pay nearly twice as much to complete my order. as mentioned earlier in this blog the mints were going at a snails pace in December of last year and collectors are really beginning to feel the pinch right now.
i really recommend you stock up on the series while you have a chance and in a year or so you can cash in. keep an eye out for boxes of the coins and put them away for future shows or for resale. i cannot guarantee you will make money but a good chance is out there.
GOOD LUCK.

new coin releases

well 2010 is starting its new releases. millard filmore presidential dollars are out and so is the new one cent coin i have been mentioning over the past few months. i am sure this will be followed with the new park and monument series shortly.
remember at the end of 2010 the lincoln presidential coin will be minted and i project a new interest in the presidential series. also as time goes by a lot of presidents that affected our personal lives will be issued and people will flock to the coins.
if this is not enough excitement a one hundredth anniversary commemorative coin of the boy scouts will also be issued shortly.
remember to log onto the usa mint if you want to purchase any of these series.

a new term for baby boomers?

are you as tired of hearing the term "baby boomer" as i am? for years this term has been thrown around and nobody knows what the hell it means.
well thank Jeff Byer for some new terms and if it becomes accepted terminology i want full credit. now let's begin.
as you probably know numismatics has changed the one cent coin every fifty years and in retrospect these years are an excellent way to determine just what a person is called. so i propose that the following terms become the standard for generations and you heard it here first.
if a person was born prior to 1909 they can be referred to as the ''indian generation".
if a person was born between 1910 and 1958 they are now called the "wheat generation."
between 1959 and 2008 they are now called the "memorial generation"".
finally anyone born during and after 2009 can be called the "new design generation".
naturally , this model will be called the "The Jeff Byer" formula because i thought of it and i will go down in history along with Abe and George. also on may fourth every school will be closed
in my honor for giving the world this model.
now please excuse me my shrink just called and said i am late for my appointment.

a great place for coins

when in chicago i recommend you visit the Morton Grove Coins & Collectibles store for a great experience in numismatics or on the web at http://www.mortongrovecoins.com.
David Fishman is the owner and he can supply you with just about all your numismatic needs.
he is a truly an honest and professional coin dealer and does all the major coin shows in the area. he can be reached at 1847-967-9200 or visit him at his store at 9241 Waukegan Road.
as Groucho stated,"tell him Jeff sent you.

remember those 3d pictures?

remember a couple of years ago when the rage was to look at a picture and have it turn into 3d before your very eyes?i do and in all honesty it drove me a little nuts until i saw something that other people saw rather instantly and i was left feeling like an inferior human being.
well, this weekend i met two great brothers and one told me he could not understand how his girlfriend could not look at coins for a whole weekend without going a little bananas.
he must have struck a nerve in me because my wife sometimes feels the same thing about me and i always remind her i am 'I am building her a dynasty' and can not understand how she could not want to join me in my pursuit for that great coin in the sky.
well, it finally hit me that coin collecting is very much like that 3d picture book and i no longer will get offended when she wants to play solitaire on the computer instead of helping me in my passion.
as with 3d pictures it takes time or you may never see what the other person sees.
oh , well excuse me its time for my knitting lesson now.
JUST KIDDING!

a new expansion for Reminicents

if you have been following this blog you might have noticed all the references to education and how coins are a unique teaching tool. well for 2010 i plan to expand the http://www.reminicents/ penny bracelet website into the educational realm which as i have said before has never been done before to my knowledge.
it is for this reason i am asking my readers to help me launch this division by sending me your ideas on how to do this. i would be greatly appreciative for any comments and please stay on top of this website to see how it develops.
if numismatics fails to get young people involved with the love of coins at a young age it will die as so many hobbies have done in the past. schools are a great place to start and help children develop this love.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION

what is your lifeline

while taking a psychiatry class at the local correctional facility where i worked we were required to interview inmates and try to determine just where there conflicts arose. from there the professor drew a long line on the board and the class would try to determine at just what age the person's life needed to be delved further so we could help resolve those conflicts.
if this sounds technical i apologize but it was from these interviews i was able to invent the reminicents coin bracelet when i retired by using this information and combining it with the love of coins which i discussed in earlier blogs.
every one and every thing has a lifeline and i strongly suggest you know yours whether you purchase one of my bracelets or not. once a person comes to know their salient events they can come to grips with the good and bad times in their life .i personally feel it helps them grow into a better person.
good luck and let me know if this information was helpful.

a novel idea for history teachers

imagine the thrill of your students when you walk in your room with a paper bag full of wheat pennies and have each student select a coin and have them write a report on that year. the coin will automaticaly bring them to a focus of that year and will make history come alive.
if you are a history teacher please e mail me and perhaps i can send you some free coins.
naturally, i would want a report on how it went and perhaps even post some of your comments.
what an easy way to have fun in your classroom. i only wish one of my teachers tried this.

the American Girl Doll is a study in coins

yesterday i met a young girl who was fascinated with coins because they matched the years of her American Girl Dolls. it seems they come from dated periods and 1943 and 1914 "pennies"
matched the years of her dolls.
it was wonderful to see how once again a child instantly saw the magic of coins come alive by
transforming them to a time they would like to visit and wondered how they could get there.
if the readers of this blog are wondering how to trasform themselves to another time period they have come to the right site. the reminicents coin and jewelry company would love to help you connect and we are only a click away.
see you later time travelers.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

a company with vision is requested

reminicents is looking for a company which can initiate a national or regional advertising campaign using coins as a marketing venue. this campaign would further the American awareness of numismatics as well as bring your company to an advertising level which has never been employed before.
if your company is interested in hearing how this can be employed or have some ideas on how to promote this concept we want to hear from you. please remember with the introduction of the 1999 state quarter program there are over one hundred million coin collectors and this number is growing every day.
now is the time to strike while the iron is hot and vast amounts of coins can still be obtained at reasonable prices.
please contact www.reminicents if you are interested. this could be the best marketing tool to come along in a long time and thousands upon of new customers could be at hand.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

a new coin is soon to be issued

on February 11, the new one cent coin will be issued. for readers of this blog you already know it will have a shield with the phrase.'E PLURIBUS UNUM' on the reverse side.
this coin will be around fifty years if they don't discontinue it and is sure to bring in new collectors and have people talking about numismatics.
keep in touch for more information as it becomes available.

hark a new Lincoln is coming

many coin collectors have shunned the new presidential coin series because they feel the coins look like casino tokens. although,i am inlined to agree ,i must admit i have purchased many rolls
of them in the hopes that one day they will catch on and i could be in the forefront of a new wave of dealers.
well, this year i may be on to something because the series is about to issue a Lincoln one dollar
coin at the end of the year and it is my guess the coins could surge in collecting circles.
i advise my readers to obtain at least one roll of each president at today's prices and see if your small investment pays off .the coins could always be sold at face . you maybe very glad you took my advice down the road when a demand builds for the first issues and you will then easily be able to turn them into books for family members or your customers.
at this point try obtaining them at banks first to see if they have any in their vaults.if not you can always try coin shows or coin stores and pay a small surcharge.

hope for the next generation

while at the local flea market i was standing next to a young man who started talking to me. he stated ,"i wonder where these coins could have been? if only they could talk."
needless to say i found my clone.
ah,the wonder the coins can give off and it doesn't cost anything to imagine.
hope your year is going well.

where were you ten years ago?

as we now head into a new decade it's quite interesting to think back to the beginning of the new millenium and to see what's transpired in our lives. ten years ago i was a caseworker for the local corrections department and had no idea that ten years later i would introduce myself to people as a numismatist. ten years ago our lives evolved around one of the world's craziest boxer puppies and this year we had to put him to sleep. ten years ago we thought we would be millionaires with the market soaring as it did in the nineties and we were put into our place during the last few years.
i nor my wife are complaining of how things turned out because we are still functioning well ten years later and hope the next decade will have some great experiences to offer.
for all of you reading this just remember that ten years ago all the computers were about to go belly up and they to are still around. HAVE A GREAT DECADE FROM WWW.REMINICENTS .
